On November 5, 1996 the state of California passed what is known as Proposition 215. The proposition was a state wide voted initiative that was authroed by Anna Boyce, Dennis Peron, and other medical marijuana activists. After it was passed it allowed patients with a valid doctor recommendation, to posses and cultivate medical marijuana for personal medical use. The proposition was put to a vote and with over 55% of the vote passed. Many say that is it because of Proposition 215 that many states today have legalized medical marijuana. Below you can find the outline for Proposition 215:
Section 1. Section 11362.5 is added to the California Health and Safety Code, to read:
Sec. 2. If any provision of this measure or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, that invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the measure which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this measure are severable. |
